ASIAEx 2001

South China Sea

The Asian Sea International Acoustics Experiment (ASIAEx) is a scientific collaboration between the United States of America, the Peoples Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, and Singapore. In 2000, the major field experiments connected with ASIAEx began. The scientific plan calls for two major experiments, one focusing on acoustic bottom reverberation and one dedicated to acoustic cross-shelf propagation. In addition to the acoustics, which is the major theme of ASIAEx, there are also extremely strong geology and physical oceanography components to these experiments. These scientific components both will support the acoustics and also provide invaluable data for coastal geology and oceanography.
